Andoran Roofing is a State licensed roofing contracting company with over 25 years of experience serving Charlotte, Sarasota, Desoto and neighboring counties.  Family owned and operated since opening its doors in 2007, Andoran Roofing offers a range of roofing services, all of which seem to be needed in the lovely Sunshine State! All our work is performed in house and we do not use any sub-contractors.   • What roof system will best keep my house cool?

    For the average home with a sloped roof over 2/12, a concrete or clay tile roof system will absolute keep you your home the coolest however not all homes are engineered to support the weight of a tile roof system.

    Metal roofing will be the next best thing as they do reflect a good amount of solar energy. Dark colors likely will trump some of cooling effects of a metal roof system.

    Asphalt shingle roofing material tends to lean toward the most heat absorbing roof systems, however, they are the most common roof system due to their affordability in comparison to their more energy efficient counterparts. With asphalt roof systems it is extremely important to have sufficient insulation in the attic along with the proper amount of ventilation. The other roof systems require this as well, but with asphalt it is more important to be thorough.

  • Why are roofing prices so much higher than I paid last time?

    We do understand this question completely. It is a good question that is asked often. The main three factors that have cause roof prices to increase so drastically in recent years are:

    1. Material pricing increase. The materials prices rise on average three times a year for as long as we can remember. Each of our suppliers notify us almost every 3-4 months of pricing increase on all material.

    2. Insurance expenses. We have to carry workers comp, General liability, and auto. All are required by law with stiff penalties if not obtained. The insurance companies know this is mandatory and likely policy carriers and agents use this to their advantage. We get yearly increases across the board and yearly audits which usually result in contractors having to pay upwards of 10s of thousands of dollars.

    3. Labor is our biggest inflation expense. In 2006 I was making $16 an hr with my previous employer after 10 years with that company. It was decent money. Now, our laborers start at $16 per hr with service techs ranging upward to high $28 dollars per hr. Payroll for the average roofing company is extremely heavy these days. Skilled labor is in very high demand. If you don’t pay top dollar with added incentives, your workforce turnover ratio will be ridiculous.

    We can assure you that most contractors in most fields are still at their same profit margins as usual. Profits will always be kept in check due to competition. Our cost to put a roof on in just material and labor is higher than the cost the entire project would have been done for 10 years ago in most cases.

  • Do you do wind mitigations or offer them with your new roof systems?

    No. To be clear, a licensed roofing contractor MAY NOT perform a uniform wind mitigation inspection. Our license does not afford us the scope to sign off on items outside of the roof system. Some companies may offer them with their new roof replacements but you can be sure it is being outsourced to a general contractor of sorts or a certified home inspector. In any case the company or persons providing the uniform wind mitigation inspection form must be a certified home inspector or a General contractor, not a roofing contractor. We could offer this service by outsourcing it as well, but we find it to be far cheaper and faster for the homeowner to have one of their insurance carriers provide an inspector.
